Poet, musician and lecturer Anthony Joseph is a major representative of the Black British avant-garde. His spectacular poetry performances – it would be wrong to speak of a poetry ‘reading’ – have become legendary in Britain and abroad. Joseph will pay a visit to the University of Vienna as part of a tour of Europe to present his brand new poetry collection Bird Head Son.

Anthony Joseph was born in Trinidad and has lived in the UK since 1989. He is the author of three poetry collections, Desafinado (1994), Teragaton (1997) and Bird Head Son (2009), a spoken-word CD Liquid Textology and a novel The African Origins of UFOs published to widespread critical acclaim by Salt Publishing in November 2006.

In 2004 Joseph was selected by the Arts Council of England for the historic Great Day photo as one of fifty Black and Asian writers who have made major contributions to contemporary British literature and in 2005 he was selected as the British Council’s first Poet in residence at California State University, Los Angeles.
