Vienna Lit is a literary society whose aim it is to increase the popularity of English language literature in Austria, with all its vitality and diversity of current literary genres. At the heart of our work is the spoken word or “live literature”, in other words literature which exists not only on paper but is also spoken aloud, spoken about, staged and engaged in during readings, performances, poetry slams etc., and which can turn a literary evening into a rousing event.

Vienna Lit organised two major literary festivals in 2006 and 2008 and has been curating and supporting readings, performances, workshops, authors’ tours, competitions, book groups, and projects in schools, in various locations in Vienna ever since.
